Employable Me: challenges faced by people with Tourette's at work

Employable Me: starting 23rd March on BBC 2 at 9pm

A new  BBC 2  documentary called Employable Me is going to be on TV starting 23rd March on BBC 2 at 9pm and then the following two Wednesdays. The BBC has been in touch to tell us that they are absolutely thrilled with the series - they feel that it will really help people understand both the challenges and strengths of those with Tourette's syndrome.

The programme is about neurodiversity in the workplace. Tourettes Action helped in the early stages of the production to help the producers gain a better understand the challenges faced by people with Tourette's at work, as well as recommending experts for the producers to speak to. One of Tourette’s Action supporters Paul Stevenson had this to say about his experience of being involved:

‘I was grateful for the experience , and it was fantastic meeting Davide Martino and Nancy Doyle  and the other specialists looking into unlocking any neurodiverse skills I may have , making the documentary was extremely difficult even though  the production team went out of their way to cater for my condition , many hours of filming can take its toll on you , the main reason i accepted the invitation to be part of this program was to help raise positive awareness and to help change perceptions and show that we, folk with full blown Tourette syndrome still have a big part to play and to offer in society’.

There are 3 episodes - each episode includes one person with Tourette's Syndrome and one person with autism or Asperger Syndrome. Each person's journey includes a visit to an expert who helps them (and us) understand the condition better.  Episode 1 includes the neurologist Davide Martino who gives a more scientific perspective, and Episode 1+2 includes occupational psychologist, Nancy Doyle (who specialises in neurodiverse conditions), and Episode 3 includes neuropsychologist Dr Clare Eddy who talks about potential links between TS and empathy.

 So look out for 'Employable Me' the first episode goes out on the 23rd March on BBC 2 at 9pm and then the following 2 Wednesdays.
