In November 2017 for the first time in Scotland Tourettes Action trained 30 clinicians in behavioural therapy for tics and Tourette Syndrome.

There was a broad spectrum of clinicians and therapists from adult and child services – the chart below shows the professions of those who attended.

Special Interest Group in Scotland for Tourettes Syndrome (SIG-TS).

Tourettes Action has also been liaising with clinicians from The Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow to form Scotland’s first Special Interest Group in Scotland for Tourettes Syndrome (SIG-TS). This group is for therapists/clinicians who are seeing adults or children with tics or TS.

The first meeting of this SIG-TS will be on Friday 1st December 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm. This will be held in Glasgow but with a Skype link-up to a Clinical consultation meeting in London. Click here to register for this free event.

The session is for therapists/clinicians who are seeing adults or children with tics or TS. The sessions are run by Tourettes Action (TA) with Dr Tara Murphy, Honorary Consultant Clinical Psychologist from Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust (GOSH) and are free of charge.

In these meetings there is a discussion by clinicians who use behavioural therapy of the strategies and techniques they use to work with their clients, helpful tips in providing the most effective approach possible and ways to understand how best to deliver the treatment, such as via telemedicine or in groups.

Future SIG meetings may include discussion of:

  • referral pathways
  • share ideas and best practice, issues relating to clinical work etc.
  • getting an understanding of services for children and young people & adults with TS
  • where they are seen, what treatment is available, what training is available to clinicians, etc.

We hope that people will come to the meetings and support theSIG-TS in Scotland. Please get in touch if you are interested in attending or would like more information Dr Seonaid Anderson.
