Want to access therapy for tics?

Please note we have updated our list of therapists offering behavioural therapy for tics. Please contact the Helpdesk for a copy

We have also added some useful information for those thinking about accessing therapy:

If one of the psychologists on our list provides NHS treatment in your area or region then your GP or specialist may be able to make a referral. This may depend on local referral pathways. If there is no NHS provider in your area then it is less likely you or your child will be able access this kind of treatment. An alternative in that situation is to consider private treatment, which some of the therapists in the list provide. Bear in mind this will ideally require multiple visits which may be expensive and inconvenient if not local to you. A further growing possibility is to see a therapist online, e.g. via Skype. A handful of psychologists are now offering this option. As far as we know it is effective, and there is research evidence showing this.

Tourettes Action believes that all people with TS who are suitable for behavioural treatments should be offered them by the NHS. We would be interested to hear about access problems so we can understand the national picture and gather evidence on the size of the issue.

If you know of a therapist offering therapy for tics who is not on the list, please let us know Seonaid@tourettes-action.org.uk
