Training day: Saturday 12th May, 10am-4pm, Central London

The Helpdesk and Befriending Services are the bloodline of Tourettes Action.  We receive over 1000 calls and emails per year from people who are looking for information and support in relation to Tourette Syndrome, and year upon year the number keeps on increasing.

Helpdesk volunteers

We have helped thousands of people navigate the health and education system with appropriate information and signposting, as well as bring support and relief to individuals and families, by offering non-judgemental listening and communication, helping them recognise they are not alone and that support is available through Tourettes Action, external services, and the wider TS community.

Befriender volunteers

The main role of the befriender is to offer informal support and a listening ear by forming a trusting and supportive relationship by email/or telephone with the service user. If successful, the relationship will help to reduce isolation and provide information, understanding and mutual friendship; helping the person or faimly to move forwards.

We can only run these services on the generous time offered by our volunteers; and to ensure that we continue to operate and develop our services, we are recruiting more volunteers to join our Helpdesk and Befriending teams.

On Saturday 12th May we are running a training day in central London from 10am - 4pm that will introduce you to the roles of both services.  Once trained and ready to take on their role, all volunteers are based at home, communicating to service users by telephone and/or email, and hours that suit you.

If you would like to hear more about our training day or register your place, please contact Services and Volunteer Manager Emma Myers: emma@tourettes-action.org.uk
