They say it's just swearing
A poem for Awareness Month
They say it's just swearing but I know that's not the case,
scrunching my nose, lips and stretching my face.
They say it's just swearing, but what they do not see,
is the intrusive thoughts whirling and the troublesome OCD.
They say it's just swearing, hums, squeaks and throat clearing, the uncertainty it causes,
never ends until I sleep and it pauses.
They say it's just swearing, the urges to tense, blink or roll my stomach it lasts until night,
I have to do this until it feels just right.
They say it's just swearing, I wish that was the case,
the embarrassment I feel written all over my face.
They say it's just swearing, but how can that be,
when all I've written is just a snippet of what it's like being me.
They say it's just swearing, sometimes I feel so perplexed,
SWEARING ONLY HAPPENS in 10% of people living with Tourettes!
