A picture book dedicated to children diagnosed with Tourette syndrome

"I wanted children with Tourette’s to be able to open a book and recognise themselves within its pages, not just their tics or their diagnosis, but the whole wonderful person they are.

Working alongside Freddie and his family was incredibly important to me because our books are shaped by real children and real experiences. We want to help other children understand that Tourette’s can look different for everyone, while showing that a diagnosis is only one small part of somebody’s story.

For me, representation starts in childhood. When we give children the opportunity to learn about differences with kindness, honesty and curiosity, we help create a generation where children like Freddie don’t have to constantly explain why they are different. They can simply be included.

I hope this book helps children with Tourette’s feel seen and understood, while giving their classmates, friends, teachers and families a gentle way to learn alongside them."

“Im so happy that Gemma wrote this book about Tourette Syndrome. I can show everyone to help them understand Tourette’s more. I very much appreciate that my family and cat are in the book. Thank you Gemma!”
