During Tourette’s Awareness Month, we had the incredible opportunity to return to London Heathrow for a behind-the-scenes experience that was as inspiring as it was educational.

Thanks to the warm invitation from our friends Andy and Russell, and the continued collaboration between Heathrow Airport’s Network Disability (HAND) group and Tourettes Action, this visit was a powerful step forward in raising awareness and promoting inclusion.

A Partnership with Purpose

This year marked another meaningful partnership between HAND and Tourettes Action, united by a shared goal: to deepen understanding of Tourette syndrome and highlight the importance of accessibility in the workplace. They invited four young ambassadors from the charity for a unique exploration of the aviation industry.

Exploring the Heart of Heathrow

We were given an exclusive tour of some of Heathrow’s most vital operations. From the intricate Baggage System and the commanding view from the Air Traffic Control Tower to the life-saving work of the Fire Service and the coordination hub of the Airport Operations Centre, the experience offered a comprehensive look at the many career paths available in aviation.

Learning Through Shared Perspectives

While the tour showcased the scale and complexity of airport operations, it also opened the door to meaningful conversations. We explained about the diverse ways TS can affect individuals and the often invisible effort involved in masking symptoms. These insights were invaluable, helping to identify areas where Heathrow could make the workplace more inclusive and supportive for everyone.

Looking Ahead

This visit was more than just a tour—it was a reminder of the power of empathy, education, and collaboration. We’re proud to be involved with these initiatives that not only raise awareness but also inspire real change. A heartfelt thank you to our friends at Heathrow for allowing us this amazing opportunity, and to the young ambassadors who shared their experiences with honesty and courage.

Together, we’re building a more inclusive future—one conversation, one visit, and one opportunity at a time.
