Professor Leckman has published more scientific papers on TS than anyone else in the world and Tourettes Action were proud to present this award.

Professor James Leckman was presented with a Tourettes Action Lifetime Achievement Award for Research and Contributions to Patient Groups by one of our Patrons, Professor Mary Robertson, at the ESSTS meeting in Warsaw in June. At the same time he received a similar award from ESSTS (the European Society for the Study of Tourette Syndrome). He gave a fascinating talk entitled "Genetics, epigenetics and developmental perspectives" which was a forward-looking survey of the cause of Tourette syndrome, a topic he has researched for many years. Prof Leckman has published more scientific papers on TS than anyone else in the world and has covered many aspects from genetics to brain science to treatments in articles and books. He is also a world expert on OCD. He is a professor of child psychiatry, psychiatry, psychology and paediatrics at the famous Yale Child Study Centre and has been voted one of the best doctors in America by other professionals. He is involved in exciting international work with UNICEF, investigating whether strengthening families and child development can contribute to peace and prevention of violence. He has been involved in a project investigating and improving the lives of children in areas of conflict such as Gaza, the West Bank and Israel. He is a huge figure in the  world of Tourette syndrome research and treatment and has always been very generous with his time in helping patients and families and groups like the Tourette Association of America. Tourettes Action was proud to make this award.
