A social story is a learning tool that can help support the exchange of information between children with TS and their teachers, friends and others in social situations.

Tourettes Action have developed a social story about TS which will help give children a clearer understanding of how TS affects them and ways in which they can explain this to others. It helps them to understand and vocalise things they find difficult and how other people can help them.

Social stories are individualized short stories using descriptive sentences and images that depict a social situation that a child may encounter. Using social stories can help children understand situations that are specifically related to them, especially if they have social communication issues.

The stories are used to describe social situations and circumstances while promoting self-awareness, self-calming, and self-management.

You can download your free copy (see right-hand panel) for your child to take to school to show their teacher and friends, or share with their peers at activity clubs or in other social situations.
