Tourettes Action are pleased to be able to work with both the press and the media, to ensure TS is portrayed positively.

Currently, we have some interesting media opportunities available. For all of these positions, please email Diane (diane@tourettes-action.org.uk)

C4 - Rio training scheme 2016

Channel 4 are looking for presenters, researchers and production staff for Rio 2016. Here's their brief:

"At the 2012 London Paralympics, 50% of Channel 4's on-screen team were disabled. That included three anchor presenters and many reporters. For Rio 2016 we are planning another revolution – this time behind the camera.

Channel 4 is committed to promoting equal opportunities. In order to promote diversity in the media industry, and to address the under-representation of disabled people in particular, we are offering 24 Rio Production Training Scheme places to disabled applicants. The aim is to train up disabled production staff to the level required to work on the Rio Paralympic Games in 2016, and beyond that to build a career in sport production.

You can find out more here."

TwoFour production company for C4 - Can you cook?

"TwoFour are looking for people who are finding it hard to return to work. They are seeking potential chefs, to be trained by a top class celebrity chef, to have this filmed and documented, with the potential of a career at the end of the series. Here's their brief:

We are looking for disabled people or those with a variety of conditions, who want to seize the opportunity to be trained and gain work experience under the watchful eye of one of Britain’s most renowned chefs, which will hopefully lead to being offered jobs in a restaurant, café or a hotel. I am looking for people who might potentially be interested in taking part in the series and can send you the flyer/web post and it would be great if you could send this out to your members who might be interested in taking part.

We are keen to find people who have been unsuccessful in finding work or feel they are in the wrong job. They either believe their condition is holding them back or feel that employers could overlook them because of their disability. The aim of the series is to challenge perceptions about disabled people in the workplace. The series will hopefully result in the participants being offered a job at the end of the process whilst enabling us to explore some of the issues and barriers that disabled people face.

Twofour is one of the UK’s most respected TV Companies. We are the producers behind Channel 4’s BAFTA nominated and Emmy winning series “Educating Yorkshire,” Prince Harry’s “Harry’s Arctic Heroes” (BBC One) and ITV’s “A Night of Heroes: The Sun Military Awards.” We were awarded Broadcast’s “Best Indie Production Company” in 2014."

Raw production company for BBCITV/C4 - Are you engaged to be married?

Are you getting married in 2015? Then this project could be right up your "aisle." Here's their brief:

"Our ambition is to produce a thought provoking, warm-hearted series with the potential to change perceptions about disability. It is likely that there will also be an accompanying Channel 4 webpage with information for viewers."

Here is some additional information about the wedding documentary we’re making for a major UK broadcaster.

Our latest project at Raw is a new prime-time television documentary about extraordinary couples who’ve experienced certain difficulties in life such as Tourette’s or a stammer, and who’re now about to get married to the partner who’s stuck by them throughout. We’re hoping to follow couples in the run up to their wedding and on the big day itself, to share their stories of strength, determination and above all, true love in the face of adversity.

Here at Raw we make intelligent, thought provoking and sensitive documentaries for ITV, BBC and Channel 4. We’re also known for our Oscar nominated and BAFTA winning feature film The Imposter.

I wondered whether it might be possible to reach out to those who Tourettes Action has supported to see whether any particular individuals have come through a difficult period in their life and are looking ahead to marriage. We understand that this is a very sensitive documentary process and are very much willing to take the lead from you with regard to possible couples. Through these stories we hope the documentary will show couples progressing through the toughest of times despite the obstacles that stand in their way, plus highlight the good work Tourettes Action achieves."

Plimsoll productions - Young people and holidays

Plimsoll are currently researching for a potential series they are developing about young people living with conditions that may prevent or discourage them from going on holiday abroad with their friends. Here's the brief:

"As the first holiday away from home without your parents is a rite of passage for many young people, but it can also be challenging for many young people with conditions where they feel they may stand out or feel misunderstood abroad. However, these holidays can be experiences which form lasting bonds, romances and friendships as well as instil a sense of self confidence on the pathway to becoming an adult.

As such we are looking into whether there is a format that would give groups of young people the opportunity to experience their first holiday away with other people of a similar ages and/or with similar difficulties."

Betty production company for C4 - The "Un"dateables

They need no introduction! Now in they're 5th series, they want to know, "Are you looking for love?" Here's the brief:

"We’re back by popular demand for a fifth run of the romantic, insightful and acclaimed documentary series for Channel 4. Once again we will be following disabled people and those with a variety of conditions through the highs and lows of finding love."

Disability Rights UK - Returning to work following an absence due to ill health

Here's their brief:

"We have been asked to find participants for an online media project which will follow a group of individuals as they aim to make the return to either their previous roles or new careers. We are recruiting for a partner initiative that is hoping to chart the progress and challenges that people experience when trying to get back to work and also offer some insight to the financial implications and resources that could be available.

Places are extremely limited and interested parties will need to be prepared to be filmed and share their experiences for short films that will be available online. In return our partners are able to offer short term financial support, access to rehabilitation services and a host of other benefits."

University of Sheffield - News pieces

Currently we have a few 3rd year journalism students at this Uni, who have chosen to produce a documentary style, TV news package about TS. This will be a mix of professional and personal experiences. They need to interview people with TS and with the potential to film them.
