TS Champions 2025
Posted on 28 August 2024 by Pippa McClounan
We're looking for the next young ambassadors to join our TS Champions programme!
The Tourettes Action TS Champions programme brings together young people to advocate for and talk about Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorders before their peers at school, college and clubs as well as in the wider community.
Spread Tolerance of TS
The aim is to educate young people to spread tolerance of and understanding about TS, while displacing the myths and stereotypes that are often associated with the condition. The teen and their adult parent (or guardian) comprise a TS Champions Team – with the teen giving presentations and the adult helping with scheduling and other arrangements.
Develop Your Skills
This is an excellent opportunity for personal development in many areas including:
- Building friendships
- Representing the TS community to raise awareness of what is still a very misunderstood condition
- Training on public speaking
- Improve leadership skills
- Build confidence
- Expand communication skills
TS Champion Requirements:
- Applicants must be between 14 and 18 years old
- Must have a diagnosis of TS or a Tic Disorder
- The applicant must be paired with an adult who will take on the responsibility of helping with the programme. These are typically teen/parent teams, however, the adult could be another family member, teacher or another responsible adult
- The applicant must have a clear understanding of Tourette Syndrome
- They must be comfortable with speaking in public
- Should have good communication skills – both verbal and written
- Must be willing to share their personal experience/story about Tourette Syndrome
TS Champion 12-month Objectives:
- Write a blog for the TA website
- Distribute 10 packs of awareness leaflets in your local area
- Deliver at least one presentation to a local school/college/workplace
- Organise one fundraising activity
- Get involved with TS Awareness Month and Move for Tourettes (15 May - 15 June)
If successful, the applicant will become a Tourettes Action TS Champion for a 12-month period, starting from the initial training day. This will be held in-person on a Saturday during November 2024 in London. Reasonable travel expenses will be paid for both the TS Champion and responsible adult.
The TS Champions' details will be added to the Tourettes Action website under our new TS Champion header.
